Trek Overview

Borasu Pass  ( 17,880 ft) is a high mountain pass in the Himalaya Mountains of  Uttarakhand. The pass is located on the border of  Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh near the border with Tibet. It was an ancient trade route between Har ki Doon valley and Kinnaur  valley.

Borasu Pass divides Uttarakhand from Himachal Pradesh. The pass is located only a few kilometers from the Tibet border. The east part of the Borasu area comes out from Tons valley and the north-west part is merged with Baspa valley. Its north-west range comes down on Jhukia Glacier. The nearest village, Chitkul, is 20.3 km (12.6 mi)away from the pass.  on the Himachal (Kinnaur valley) side and Osla village on the Uttarakhand side of the pass. Approach to the pass is marked by grasslands. Mountains Bandar Poonch, Black Peak or Kala-nag,  swargarohini and Har ki Dun may be observed from the pass.

Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri (1920m) Distance: 190km, 7 hrs drive

  • Begin your journey from Dehradun till Sankri, travel via bus or taxi according to your trekking package.
  • Over Night Stay in Sankri

Day 2: Sankri to Seema (2560m) via Taluka (1800m) Distance: 1 hour drive, 5 to 6 hrs hike, 14km

  • Reach at Taluka from Sankri, the trek begins from Taluka.
  • With the Supin river flowing beside, the walk is quiet pleasant.
  • The path will cross over the Supin river, keep walking through the village of Gangad and gradually the village of Osla will appear.
  • The Seema village is tiny settlement opposite to the river from Osla.

Day 3: Seema/Osla to Har Ki Dun (3510m) Distance: 4 to 5 hours hike, 10km

  • From Osla the trail gradually gets higher, the ascending path climbs high above the confluence Supin river from the Ruinsara Valley.
  • The Har Ki Dun appears, it is located in the midst of two valleys- one originating from the Jaundhar Glacier and other from beyond Hata glacier.

Day 4: Har Ki Dun to Ratha Tho (4200m) Distance: 4 to 5 hours hike, 5 km

  • While trekking to the Ratha Tho you will cross the Marinda Tal, a small lake.
  • The path ahead is a bit over the boulders, but the snow clad peaks and panoramic view makes the walk worth every step.

Day 5: Ratha Tho to Borasu Pass base camp (Upper Lamjung) (4900m) Distance: 3 to 4 hours hike, 4km

  • This path is more over boulders and is covered with snow on most of the areas.
  • The campsites on Upper Lamjung are usually covered with snow all over.
  • The climb however opens up to an ecstatic view of the valley left behind.

Day 6: Borasu Pass Base Camp (Uper Lamjung) to Bonga (4000m) via Borasu Pass(5360m)

  • Distance-As you keep moving higher up the scenery keeps getting wider and better.
  • The cradle shape Borasu Pass appears after crossing two boulders with a final ascent over these boulders.
  • Descending towards the Himachal side of the pass into the large glacier over the initial slope, the trek is further along a tributary of Baspa River, you may find many shepherds along the way.

Day 7: Bonga to Chitkul (3430m) Distance: 8 hrs hike, 15km

  • A long trek of 8 hour with an easy walk through flower fields and forest.
  • Stay overnight in Chitkul Village.
  • The trek ends here.
  • From here you can have public or private transport from Chitkul or Sangla to Sankri.

Meals

All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast at Last day are included. Veg food will be provided during the trek.

Camping Charges

Permits/ Forest fees. UTT will arrange trekking permits and forest passes.

Experienced Trek Leader & Team

Qualified trek leaders having basic / advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees will assist on trek. Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.

Backpack Offloading

Mule and Porter charges. Generally we expect trekkers to carry their bag-pack and luggage themselves. For those who wish to use Mule/Porter need to pay Rs 350 per day for same.

Trek Policies

Confirmation Policy

Once the amount is paid in full, a confirmation mail will be sent. For Partial payment the complete amount needs to be sent before trek start.

For Payments done using Bank Transfer, The Trekker needs to share the transaction details over email,

Cancellation policy

  • Cancellations prior to 30 days from the start of the trek — full refund.
  • Cancellation between 30 days and 20 days to the start of the trek — 50% refund.
  • Cancellation less than 20 days and 10 days to the start of the trek — 25 % refund.
  • Cancellation less than 10 days to the start of the trek :- No refund.

Refund Policy

In case of an unforeseen event UTT reserves the right to cancel the same. UTT will do its best to inform the trekkers about this. However refund due to cancellation or trek change or date change is followed under following rules

  • No Refund if trekker agrees on date change of trek change but does not turns up
  • Refund may be adjusted to some other trek in future on some urgent and need basis.

Trek Change Policy

In case of an unforseen event UTT reserves the right to change the trek to other trek. Such decesions will be pre infromed to the trekkers and will olny take into into effect if trekkers want the same.

  • Change of trek batch is dependent on the availability of seats in the batch.
  • The trekker needs to pay the diference of the amount if the trek cost is more then the previeous trek cose.
  • In case of the new trek cost is less then the provious trek cost, the difference will be adjusted in ter of cashback/discount/vouchers.

Date Change Policy

  • Change of trek batch is dependent on the availability of seats in the batch.
  • In case of transferring a trek to a friend, he/she should satisfy all the mandatory requirements put forward by UTT.
  • UTT holds the right to change/cancel the policies, without prior notice.
