Trek Overview

Sunderdhunga Glacier is located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand. Adorned with an intriguing panorama, this glacier sits close to Sukhram and Maiktoli Glacier. Sunderdhunga trek is a gripping one as it opens up to spectacular views of imposing peaks like Maiktoli, Mrigthuni, Tharkot and Panwalidwar. A paradise for nature lovers and keen photographers, Sunderdhunga Glacier is a must see natural wonder. Sunderdhunga trek is one of the best trek of uttarakhand.

Itinerary

Day 01: Kathgodam - Bageshwar - Loharkhet (Driving: 210kms, 6-7hrs)

  • After having breakfast, drive from Kathgodam to Bageshwar via Almora.
  • Explore the town of Bageshwar and visit the old Bagnath temple at the confluence of Saryu and Gomti River. Buy all necessary things from the market of Bageshwar.
  • After lunch head towards Loharkhet and reach by evening.
  • Arrange for guide and porter the same day if required. KMVN has Rest houses in Loharkhet.
  • Overnight in Loharkhet.

Day 02: Loharkhet - Dhakuri (Trekking: 10kms, 5hrs)

  • Loharkhet is situated at an elevation of 1,760mts above sea level.
  • Start first step of your trek to Pindari and Kafni Glacier.
  • The trek is easy but quite steep and goes through dense forest.
  • After following the trail for few more kilometers from Dhakuri Khal you reach Dhakuri.
  • View of snow capped peaks of southern wall of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary is visible from Dhakuri Khal.
  • Dhakuri is situated at an elevation of 2,680mts amidst dense forest. Overnight in Dhakuri.

Day 03: Dhakuri - Khati - Jaitoli (Trekking: 15kms, 7hrs)

  • Khati is the biggest village that you will come across on the trek to Pindari Glacier. The trail passes through thick forest of Rhododendrons.
  • It is the last village en route Pindari and Kafni glacier, situated at an elevation of 2,210mts above sea level. You can charge your batteries by paying to run the generator. KMVN rest house is situated 500mts ahead of Khati village. Khati is situated on the banks of Pindar River.
  • It is believed that the hospitable villagers are descendents of the race who provided pandavas with shelter.
  • The pet dogs here have metal collars so the wild animals don't grab them by the throat.
  • Jaitoli is situated at an elevation of 2,440mts above sea level. Overnight in Jaitoli.

Day 04: Jatoli - Dhungia Dhaun - Kathalia (Trekking: 13km, 7hrs)

  • The distance that you have to cover today is 13kms.
  • More than half of the journey goes through thick alpine forest and the trek is graded as moderate.
  • Dhungia Dhaun is situated 8kms from Jatoli.
  • There are shepherd tents in Dudhia Dhaung. Beyond Dudhia Dhaung, it is necessary to take a guide even for experienced and professional trekkers but it would be better if you book a guide and porter from the very beginning of the trek.
  • The next halt is Kathalia, situated at an elevation of 3,206mts above sea level.
  • Kathalia is the last inhabited village en route Sunderdhunga Glacier. Overnight in Kathalia.

Day 5: Kathalia - Maiktoli Top/Sukhram cave (Trekking: 7km, 4hrs)

  • Enjoy heavy breakfast in Kathalia and choose from the two different paths leading to two different viewpoints.
  • The route from Kathalia diverts to Maiktoli Top and Sukhram Cave. Both these destinations are situated 7kms from Kathalia.
  • Trek to Maiktoli top is a steep and tiring climb but the rewards are great with stupendous views of the Himalayas.
  • Maiktoli top is situated 4,320mts above sea level.

Day 6: Kathalia - Jaitoli (Trekking: 13km, 5hrs)

  • The trek descends down from Kathalia to Jaitoli aqnd can be easily completed within 5hrs.
  • Walk slowly and enjoy every moment of beautifully enriched scenic splendors of Sunderdhunga valley.
  • Overnight in Jaitoli

Day 7: Jaitoli - Khati - Dhakuri (Trekking: 15kms, 7hrs)

  • Depart from Jaitoli and head towards Khati.
  • Trek to Khati from Jaitoli is quite easy but the trek goes moderate from Khati to Dhakuri as it is quite enervating.
  • The final kilometers of the trek may be tiring but filled with nostalgic memories and an experience to share.
  • Overnight in Dhakuri.

Day 8: Dhakuri - Loharkhet - Almora - Kathgodam (Trekking: 10kms, 4hrs, Driving: 210kms, 7hrs)

  • After breakfast follow the downward trail all the way to Loharkhet.
  • Drive to Almora or Kausani or you can directly depart to Kathgodam.

Experienced Trek Leader & Team

Qualified trek leaders having basic / advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees will assist on trek. Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.

Trek Policies

Confirmation Policy

Once the amount is paid in full, a confirmation mail will be sent. For Partial payment the complete amount needs to be sent before trek start.

For Payments done using Bank Transfer, The Trekker needs to share the transaction details over email,

Cancellation policy

  • Cancellations prior to 30 days from the start of the trek — full refund.
  • Cancellation between 30 days and 20 days to the start of the trek — 50% refund.
  • Cancellation less than 20 days and 10 days to the start of the trek — 25 % refund.
  • Cancellation less than 10 days to the start of the trek :- No refund.

Refund Policy

In case of an unforeseen event UTT reserves the right to cancel the same. UTT will do its best to inform the trekkers about this. However refund due to cancellation or trek change or date change is followed under following rules

  • No Refund if trekker agrees on date change of trek change but does not turns up
  • Refund may be adjusted to some other trek in future on some urgent and need basis.

Trek Change Policy

In case of an unforseen event UTT reserves the right to change the trek to other trek. Such decesions will be pre infromed to the trekkers and will olny take into into effect if trekkers want the same.

  • Change of trek batch is dependent on the availability of seats in the batch.
  • The trekker needs to pay the diference of the amount if the trek cost is more then the previeous trek cose.
  • In case of the new trek cost is less then the provious trek cost, the difference will be adjusted in ter of cashback/discount/vouchers.

Date Change Policy

  • Change of trek batch is dependent on the availability of seats in the batch.
  • In case of transferring a trek to a friend, he/she should satisfy all the mandatory requirements put forward by UTT.
  • UTT holds the right to change/cancel the policies, without prior notice.
